Alvarez & Marsal Appoints Ankit Agarwal to Lead Energy Sector Transformation in India

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) recently made an important addition to its leadership team in its Indian operations. Ankit Agarwal has been appointed Managing Director at the firm’s Business Transformation Services, part of its efforts to develop its energy and resources practices.

Mr. Agarwal is based out of Mumbai and will oversee the company’s advisory services function, with a specific focus on the manufacturing sectors within energy and resource companies. His work will entail encouraging and assisting companies in leveraging technology to optimize their processes and merge Information Technology with their manufacturing processes.

A Wealth of Industry Experience

Mr. Agarwal brings to A&M more than 17 years of strong industry experience as a consultant as well as in industry in India, the Middle East, and Europe. His areas of expertise include a broad spectrum of key areas such as supply chain management, growth strategies, and corporate mergers.

Prior to that, he was an Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company. Apart from that, he has had important roles at Tata Strategic Management Group and Jindal Steel & Power. This gives him a distinct outlook that includes experience at the most senior levels. For a long period of time, his clients have included important firms engaged in mining, chemicals, RE resources, or fertilizers.

Driving Results in a Changing Market

The appointment comes at a time when India’s energy sector is facing rapid changes due to global competition and a shift toward sustainability.

Himanshu Bajaj, Managing Director and Head of A&M India and GCC, highlighted the importance of this new hire:

“India’s energy and resources sector is evolving amid changing market dynamics and a sharper focus on sustainability. Clients are seeking partners who can deliver not just strategy, but also measurable outcomes. Ankit’s deep sector knowledge will be central to supporting our clients across the value chain.”
