Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTRANSCO) has concluded the auction for the development of 1,000 MW / 2,000 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across seven substations in the state. The tender, floated in August 2025, delivered the lowest discovered tariff of ₹1.48 lakh per MW per month, establishing a new national benchmark for utility-scale energy storage pricing.
The projects will be implemented under the Build–Own–Operate (BOO) model with support from the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, capped at ₹18 lakh per MWh to be released in three tranches. Land is being allotted on a right-to-use basis at a nominal lease of ₹1 per acre per year. The BESS will provide on-demand services to State DISCOMs and the SLDC, ensuring dispatch flexibility and grid stability.
