Bondada Engineering Limited has marked a major milestone in its renewable energy journey after receiving a Letter of Award (LOA) from the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (AP TRANSCO) for the development of a large-scale standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The award, disclosed through a regulatory filing under SEBI Regulation 30, significantly strengthens the company’s presence in India’s fast-evolving energy storage and grid infrastructure sector.
The project entails the establishment of a 225 MW / 450 MWh standalone battery energy storage system at the 400/220 kV Hindupur substation in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. It will be executed under the Build–Own–Operate (BOO) model, allowing Bondada Engineering to own, operate, and maintain the asset over its lifecycle. This approach enables the company to generate stable, long-term annuity-based revenues, offering enhanced earnings visibility and predictable cash flows.
Valued at approximately ₹627 crore, the project is expected to be completed within 18 months from the date of receipt of the LOA. Upon commissioning, the facility will play a critical role in supporting grid stability, managing peak power demand, and enabling greater integration of renewable energy sources into the state’s electricity network. Battery energy storage systems are increasingly becoming a key enabler of India’s clean energy transition, helping address intermittency challenges associated with renewable power generation.
With the addition of this project, Bondada Engineering’s cumulative BESS portfolio has reached nearly 1 GWh, positioning the company as a strong and credible participant in India’s grid-scale energy storage ecosystem. This expansion reflects the company’s strategic shift from a predominantly construction-led revenue model toward an operational annuity-based framework, which is expected to improve long-term shareholder value and strengthen financial resilience.
The company stated that the project has been awarded by a domestic entity and does not involve any promoter or group company interest, confirming that it is not a related-party transaction. This ensures transparency and compliance with regulatory requirements.
This latest project win aligns closely with India’s broader energy transition goals, particularly the push toward energy storage-led infrastructure development to support rising renewable energy capacity. The Hindupur BESS project is expected to contribute significantly to Andhra Pradesh’s power system reliability while enhancing the state’s renewable energy integration capabilities.
Overall, the AP TRANSCO project represents a key step forward in Bondada Engineering Limited’s growth strategy, reinforcing its capability to secure and execute large-scale, complex infrastructure projects in the emerging energy storage segment while strengthening its long-term growth visibility in India’s clean energy landscape.
