Century Lithium Corp. is happy to announce that Alpha-En Corporation of Hopewell Junction, New York, has made headway in successfully converting Century Lithium’s lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) into lithium-metal anodes (“Li-MA”) suitable for use in batteries. The Li-MA was made from lithium carbonate from the related Demonstration Plant in Nye County, Nevada, and Century Lithium’s fully owned lithium property, Angel Island, located in Esmeralda County, Nevada.
“We are proud that Century Lithium was selected as a domestic source of lithium for Alpha-En’s program to produce lithium-metal anodes,” stated Bill Willoughby, Century Lithium President and CEO. “This collaboration reflects the quality of our material and the strength of our technical capabilities as we continue to support innovation across the US battery materials supply chain.”
Alpha-En received a sample of 99.8% pure lithium carbonate from Angel Island from Century Lithium. Using its proprietary room-temperature conversion method, Alpha-En transformed the sample into lithium metal, producing Li-MA with a high extraction efficiency and area capacity.
“We are very pleased with the performance of the lithium metal produced from Century Lithium’s lithium carbonate. Its purity and consistency translated directly into high-quality lithium-metal anodes,” stated Landon Oakes, Chief Technology Officer of Alpha-En Corporation. “We look forward to continued collaboration with Century Lithium as they advance Angel Island.”
At its Demonstration Plant, Century Lithium is advancing Angel Island via continuous engineering, technical, and permitting development. The company continues to have a favorable long-term perspective on lithium-based batteries, which it thinks will be essential to the expansion of the stationary energy storage and electric vehicle (“EV”) sectors. It is anticipated that Century Lithium will continue to assist Alpha-En in building a local lithium supply chain.
