India NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) has declared the outcomes of its standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) tender of 250 MW/1,000 MWh capacity. EnerGrid and Sunsure energy have won 125 MW/500 MWh at Rs 6.65 per kWh and rs 6.64 per kWh, respectively. Floating of tender was done in February 2025. The tender is supposedly one of the first tenders in India that includes charging power within the scope of the bidder.
The developers will be provided a viability gap funding support of up to Rs 2.7 million per MWh or 30 percent of the capital cost, whichever is lower. The developers too can have an option of an extra capacity of up to 250 MW/1,000 MWh through a greenshoe option.
The chosen BESS developers are to install, operate, and maintain the systems on a build-own-operate basis. The storage systems should be provided to NVVN to charge and discharge on demand, with a minimum of 95 percent availability in a month. NVVN had previously defined an upper tariff of Rs 7.8 per kWh, and the granted tariffs do not exceed it.
