Exide Industries Invested Nearly ₹1,000 crore in Exide Energy Solutions in FY25

Exide Industries is powering a greener future with a ₹3,602 crore investment in lithium-ion battery manufacturing for EVs and energy storage.

In the financial year 2024-25, Exide Industries had invested almost 1,000 crore in its subsidiary company, Exide Energy Solutions (EESL). EESL has been constructing a mega lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. By April 2025, Exide makes a total investment of 3,602 crore in the project. In its construction, the plant is being constructed in two phases with a total capacity of 12 gigawatt-hours when finished being constructed.

It is well on track with construction, and the company estimates that commercial production at the first phase will start within 2025–26 when referring to its most recent annual report. EESL was constituted in 2022 to manufacture advanced battery cells in India for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. The firm already produces battery modules and packs in its Prantij, Gujarat, plant and sells them to EV, telecom, and grid storage industries.

The company registered 16,588 crore and 1.893 crore earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of the company in FY25. The profit after tax was 1077 crore, about 7 crore above the 1053 crore in the previous year. The balance sheet has a zero debt-to-equity ratio, and a healthy cash flow was still being generated by the company.

Although the demand for replacement batteries in the domestic market was steady, the demand was low in carmakers throughout the year. There were positive industrial and solar UPS sales but a reduced rate in home UPS purchases. Exide had a good performance in its automotive battery segment in the overseas business it made, but in industrial battery, it received a setback, owing to the economic slowdown in some of its key markets in Europe.

Exide Industries Limited is a top Indian multinational corporation that is involved in the production and storage of power solutions, whose legacy cuts across more than seventy years. It is based in Kolkata and is one of the largest manufacturers of lead-acid car, industrial, and submarine-consumer batteries in India and a major participant in lithium-ion battery technology.

The products of Exide are very common in vehicles, power backup systems, renewable energy sources among other important inputs. The company is characterized by their strong manufacturing base, state-of-the-art research and development centers, and expansive distribution system in both the Indian and international markets. Exide being focused on the sustainability and innovation, it is investing seriously in green energy technology, such as its leading battery solution in electric vehicles, in order to keep pace with the changing preferences of a cleaner and energy-efficient future
