Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), a leading developer of sustainable energy solutions and part of Jameel Energy, has announced a strategic joint venture with AMP Tank Finland Oy, a prominent developer of energy storage systems in the Nordic and Baltic regions. This collaboration marks the development of the first joint Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) 60 MWh site in Simo, Finland, located at the top of the Baltic Sea, just over 100 kilometers below the Arctic Circle.
Construction of the first phase of the project started in May 2024 and is expected to be operative in Q1 2025. Located near the newly commissioned Fingrid Simojoki substation in Lapland, the site will initially house 26 Sungrow PowerTitan battery arrays based on lithium ferrophosphate (LFP) cells, delivering 60 MWh of capacity. The project covers a 0.4-hectare area and will play a vital role in stabilizing Finland’s growing renewable energy grid.
The BESS will be equipped with an advanced optimization system that ensures efficient operation and maximizes energy output. Discussions are underway for a second phase, which could see the site’s capacity expanded to 200 MWh, further enhancing Finland’s ability to integrate renewable energy into its electricity mix.
AmpTank is a private company founded in 2021, based in Helsinki, Finland. AmpTank developer projects in operation or under construction exceed 200 MW/400 MWh, with +2 GWh of projects under development.
