Grenergy has signed a new agreement with BYD Energy Storage, a global energy solutions provider, for the supply of 3.5 GWh in energy storage systems to be installed in the sixth phase of the Oasis de Atacama (Elena) project, located in northern Chile.

This agreement marks the largest collaboration between the two companies to date, strengthening their strategic alliance within one of the world’s most significant energy storage projects. Moreover, it sets a milestone by becoming the largest battery supply in Latin America and the second largest globally.

Through this new partnership, BYD Energy Storage will supply Grenergy with a total of 6,240 units of its MC Cube-T model—equivalent to 624 containers—that will be used to develop the storage system for the Elena plant, a key phase of Oasis de Atacama with 446 MW of solar capacity and 3.5 GWh of storage.

BYD MC Cube-T model integrates Blade Batteries, known for their high safety, durability, and operational efficiency—essential qualities for a project of the scale and technical requirements of Oasis de Atacama.

This new acquisition builds upon the first three phases of the Oasis de Atacama project, which totaled 3 GWh, increasing the total contracted volume with the Asian multinational to 6.5 GWh.

    About Oasis de Atacama

Oasis de Atacama is one of the world’s largest battery storage projects, with a planned total capacity of 11 GWh and an associated solar power capacity of 2 GW.

The project already includes multiple supply agreements with leading global battery manufacturers, solidifying its position as one of the most significant energy storage systems worldwide. Additionally, Grenergy has secured long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with global players to ensure the financial viability and long-term sale of energy generated by various project phases.

“This agreement reaffirms our commitment and leadership in energy storage, a key technology for ensuring a reliable grid and access to clean energy 24/7. It is our largest battery acquisition to date, and when combined with recent purchases for Oasis de Atacama, the project now surpasses the installed capacity of reference countries in energy storage, such as the UK, Germany, and Italy.”

    – David Ruiz de Andrés, CEO of Grenergy.

“This landmark partnership with Grenergy isn’t just about scale—it’s about redefining what’s possible for global energy resilience. Our 3.5 GWh BESS will anchor the world’s most ambitious storage portfolio. Together, we’re proving that gigawatt-hour solutions can deliver terawatt-hour impacts.”

    – Yin Xiaoqiang, General Manager of BYD Energy Storage.

With over 12 years of experience in Chile, Grenergy leads the development of clean energy plants, with nearly 100 projects completed. Currently, the company has a platform with 4.6 GW of solar power and 18.3 GWh of storage capacity.

Grenergy is set to host its Capital Markets Day on May 28 in London, where it will present the update of its investment plan through 2027 and new projects focused on energy storage.
