Huawei, Sungrow Lead H1 2025 Global Solar Inverter Performance Rankings

Huawei, Sungrow Lead H1 2025 Global Solar Inverter Performance Rankings

Huawei and Sungrow have secured the top two positions among global solar inverter manufacturers for the first half of 2025, scoring 93.9 and 93.7, respectively, according to Wood Mackenzie’s Global Solar Inverter Manufacturer Rankings H1 2025. The assessment evaluated 23 leading companies from seven countries, collectively representing nearly 90% of global inverter shipments in 2024.

“The global inverter market in 2025 is led by a diverse set of companies that combine scale with innovation,” said Timothy Shen, Senior Research Analyst at Wood Mackenzie. “Competitive advantage is increasingly determined not just by shipment volumes but also by excellence in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, service quality, and supply chain resilience.”

A major insight from the H1 2025 rankings is the growing maturity of ESG initiatives. Six of the top ten manufacturers achieved an EcoVadis rating of silver or higher, placing them among the top 15% of companies globally for sustainability performance. Additionally, all top ten suppliers now offer warranty extensions of 20 years or more, reflecting confidence in product longevity and alignment with the operational life of solar modules, which helps reduce long-term risk for developers and asset owners.

Innovation continues to be a key differentiator despite ongoing pricing pressures. Eight of the top ten manufacturers reinvest more than 6% of their annual revenue into R&D, supporting advances in digitalisation, power-conversion technology, faster product development cycles, and expanding patent portfolios.

Geographic diversification is another strategic focus. Four of the top ten companies now operate globally distributed manufacturing facilities across China, Europe, India, the United States, Southeast Asia, and Israel. Shen noted that regionalised production strategies enable manufacturers to meet local content requirements, navigate trade barriers, and maintain supply chain reliability.

Wood Mackenzie also recognises “Grade A” manufacturers, awarded to those meeting at least five of the firm’s benchmarks across ESG, CSR, after-sales service, R&D investment, capacity utilisation, and manufacturing experience. This designation provides developers, EPCs, and asset owners with guidance on suppliers that combine operational robustness with industry best practices.

The rankings are published biannually, based on vendor surveys, public disclosures, proprietary databases, and extensive engagement with manufacturers. Companies with score differences of 0.2 points or less receive the same rank, ensuring a consistent and transparent assessment of global inverter performance.
