SECI Finalises 4,800 MWh FDRE Auction Results

In a landmark development under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has successfully concluded the first-ever auction for the procurement of Green Ammonia under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme – Mode 2A.

This pioneering auction has resulted in a record low price discovery of ₹55.75/kg, equivalent to USD 641/MT, significantly lower than the previously discovered price of USD 1,153/MT in the H2Global auction. The price is also competitive with current Grey Ammonia prices, which stood at USD 515/MT as of March 2025, offering a compelling economic rationale for industry offtakers to transition to cleaner alternatives.

The auction covers the supply of 75,000 metric tons per annum of Green Ammonia to Paradeep Phosphates Limited in Odisha. It is the first in a series of 13 auctions scheduled over the coming month under a cumulative procurement tender of 7.24 lakh metric tons per year.

SECI, acting as the intermediary procurer under the guidance of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) and with strong support from the Department of Fertilizers, facilitated this highly competitive bidding process. The auction saw robust participation, reflecting the growing confidence of developers and investors in India’s green hydrogen ecosystem.

The winning bid was awarded to M/s ACME Cleantech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., which has set a new benchmark in cost-effective production and supply of Green Ammonia.

“This auction is a watershed moment in India’s journey to become a global hub for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives,” said a senior MNRE official. “It directly addresses a key barrier in the sector—offtake assurance—through a cost-discovery-based model and fixed 10-year pricing, along with robust payment security mechanisms.”

The outcome is expected to accelerate the adoption of Green Hydrogen derivatives across sectors such as fertilizers, refining, and chemicals and paves the way for rapid industrial decarbonization aligned with India’s net-zero goals.
