The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has presented the Statistical Series: Spotlight on India’s Renewable Snapshot, highlighting that India’s clean energy transition is accelerating rapidly, with consistent growth across the solar, wind, bioenergy, and small hydro sectors. As of July 31, 2025, the nation has achieved significant progress in building a diversified and sustainable energy mix, marking a major milestone in its journey toward a cleaner and greener future.
The latest figures show substantial progress in renewable energy deployment:
- Solar Power: 119.02 GW installed out of a total installed potential of 236.44 GW
- Wind Power: 52.14 GW installed out of 82.24 GW total installed capacity
- Bio-Energy: 11.60 GW installed
- Small Hydro: 5.11 GW installed
These incremental powers have seen the overall installable capacity of renewable power in India reach 187.87 GW which is an indication of the determination of the country to pursue clean power. In parallel to this, non-fossil total capacity has increased to 500.31 GW, and is now a strong basis for further enhancement.
It is a testament to India that, by attaining a diversified energy portfolio, it successfully uses solar and wind power, bio-resources, and hydropower, among others, to establish itself as one of the global clean energy giants. Moreover, despite some improvement in the project pipeline, India is well on course to achieving its long-term sustainability objectives and thus making positive contributions to climate ambitions across the world. Furthermore, this progress demonstrates the country’s commitment to continuing to invest in renewable technologies. As a result, India’s leadership in clean energy is becoming increasingly significant, and it is poised to influence global environmental outcomes positively.
