JA Solar Launches JA Energy Storage in Latin America

JA Solar officially launched JA Energy Storage at an exclusive rooftop event at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The company unveiled its latest innovations, featuring an integrated solution that combines photovoltaic technologies with advanced energy storage systems (BESS), marking a strategic milestone in its portfolio.

The event, held under the concept “Beyond the Sunset: Extending the Power of the Sun,” brought together representatives from the energy sector, trade associations, opinion leaders, and the company’s clients, reinforcing Chile’s role as a launchpad for advanced technologies that drive the energy transition in Latin America.

During the event, JA Solar presented its latest products that integrate high-performance solar panels with BESS systems, under the specialized brand JA Energy Storage. This offering, through portfolio integration applied to projects in the country, will bring greater flexibility to the system, alleviate congestion, optimize generation dispatch, and improve the reliability of the electrical grid.

“Storage systems allow us to capture the energy that is currently lost due to grid constraints or oversupply. It is a tool that transforms operational problems into economic opportunities,” highlighted Erick Melo, Technical Manager – South LATAM at JA Solar, during the technical session.

Likewise, Víctor Soares, Head of the LATAM Technical Team at JA Solar, added, “Lithium iron phosphate technology has established itself as the global standard in energy storage due to its balance of safety, lifespan, and cost, making it the most reliable option today for solar and battery projects, which is the focus of our company.”

Energy storage has become one of the main global trends driven by the need for more flexible, resilient systems capable of responding to the increasing penetration of renewable energies. Thanks to its regional leadership in solar adoption and its evolving regulatory framework, Chile has positioned itself as a key market for these technologies.

This was emphasized by Marcos Donzino, Head of Sales South LATAM at JA Solar, who opened the event by stating that “the interest we saw at this meeting confirms that energy storage will continue to grow in Chile and the region, and that today it is a key enabler for the development of new solar projects. We want the market to see JA Solar not only as a solar panel manufacturer but also as a solutions integrator that combines solar and storage. The country is a strategic market for JA Solar due to its leadership in solar energy, and today it begins a new stage with the development of energy storage.”

For his part, Gabriel Magdalon, Vice President of LATAM JA Solar, added that “in addition to being leaders in photovoltaic modules, today we also want to consolidate our position as a relevant player in energy storage solutions in Latin America, and we wanted to demonstrate this with the presentation of our new BESS solutions.”

A SPACE FOR DIALOGUE AND INNOVATION

The program included a space for industry discussions and analysis of current trends in the solar and energy storage sector through a dialogue featuring Bárbara Barbieri, president of ACESOL (Chilean Solar Energy Association), and Ana Lía Rojas, executive director of ACERA (Chilean Renewable Energy and Storage Association).

“Energy storage is key to bridging the gap between where we generate energy and where it is consumed. Chile produces a lot of solar energy in the north, and much of the demand is in the central region, making this technology strategic for the electrical system,” said Bárbara Barbieri, president of ACESOL, the Chilean Solar Energy Association.

For her part, Ana Lía Rojas, executive director of ACERA, the association that brings together the renewable energy and storage ecosystem, emphasized, “The challenge is no longer just integrating more renewable projects; it’s ensuring there is sufficient demand to absorb them. The coal phase-out effect will run out, and what will define the sector’s future is our ability to electrify the country. Without widespread electrification, especially in the mining industry, the energy transition will remain incomplete.”

The event concluded with a closing address by Paco Tang, Senior Business Development Manager, who reinforced the company’s vision for the future of solar and storage and its commitment to providing comprehensive solutions that support the energy transition in Latin America.
