Kalpa Power Private Limited based in Pune, one of the leading organisations in solar energy management in India, has introduced WATTBANK the first productised Battery Energy Storage Service (BESS) in the country specifically designed to cater to commercial and industrial (C&I) customers.
WATTBANK enables companies to save evening peak electricity charges of up to 50 percent, and saves money directly with annual yields of ₹80 lakh to ₹1 crore on a typical 1 MW plant. The system operates on the principle of storing solar energy produced in daytime and releasing it during the time of high tariffs in the evening, which allows reducing the cost of the operating energy.
WATTBANK, a 130 kW system was the first to be installed at Amar Business Zone in Pune. This setup will allow the premises to be a fully net-zero facility in conjunction with an on-site solar plant.
WATTBANK is available as a turnkey service or full product package that consists of full energy audits, storage design optimization, turnkey implementation, 24×7 data monitoring and management of the entire product lifecycle. The system is constructed based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) based batteries, which have become the safest, most efficient, and longest lasting batteries and have a projected service life of 25 years.
Besides saving costs, WATTBANK plays a role in demand-side management, grid stability, and reducing overload pressure, which is one of the main issues of the Indian energy infrastructure.
Highlighting the significance of energy storage, Rounak Muthiyan, Founder and Director of Kalpa Power, stated, “Energy storage is the key missing link for scaling renewable energy in India. The BESS allows for power to be delivered when it’s required, not just when it’s available, directly tackling the variability of solar and ensuring our clients have 24/7 access to clean, reliable electricity. With WATTBANK, we are accelerating the clean energy transition while delivering immediate cost benefits to businesses.”
