KPI Green Energy Limited, a subsidiary of the Surat-based KP Group, has been granted a Category A Power Trading License by the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC). This strategic approval marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey to enhance its role in India’s renewable energy market by directly participating in electricity trading.
With this license, KPI Green Energy can now tap into India’s power exchanges and short-term bilateral markets, enabling it to align energy sales more efficiently with demand patterns. The license applies across the company’s growing 6+ GW renewable energy portfolio, allowing it to optimize realizations and offer flexible procurement solutions for both industrial and utility customers.
“This license is a strategic milestone for us. It not only empowers KPI to participate directly in dynamic markets but also allows us to sell power when and where it’s most needed—maximizing realizations, expanding customer choice, and accelerating India’s clean-energy transition,” said Dr. Faruk G. Patel, Chairman & Managing Director, KPI Green Energy Limited.
The license has a number of operational and market strengths:
- It allows real-time trading to match consumer demand curves and enhance a better integration to the open-access consumers.
- Exchange-discovered rates and standardized contracts are beneficial to customers because they offer predictable and competitive prices.
- KPI is now able to provide the verifiable blocks of green energy that contribute to achieving the compliance with the Renewable Energy (RE) and the high targets of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).
KP Group is one of the major participants in the Indian clean energy industry, founded in 1994 by Dr. Faruk G. Patel. Its listed company, KPI Green Energy, is dedicated to autonomous solar power generation and has established a successful reputation for scalable, innovative, and sustainable energy solutions to aid the Indian green growth agenda.
This regulator consent should expedite the commercialization of the KPI renewable generation assets and further establish its leadership in the energy transition domain.
