Krushna Chandra Panigrahy Assumes Charge as Director General of Bureau of Energy Efficiency

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has officially welcomed Shri Krushna Chandra Panigrahy on the occasion of his assumption of the office of the Director General of the organisation. He has taken his position at a juncture when India is reinforcing the requirement of energy efficiency as the key to sustainable development.

A Key Leadership Transition at BEE

It comes under the Ministry of Power and plays a significant role in determining policies and schemes on “Energy Efficiency.” Keeping in view the rise in demand for more “Energy” and focusing on “Saving Our Climate,” a major responsibility lies on the shoulders of leaders of this organisation.

Under the stewardship of Shri Panigrahy, BEE is expected to further consolidate its role as a nodal agency for the country in the promotion of efficient energy use in all sectors, namely industries, buildings, appliances and transport.

Strengthening Energy Efficiency Initiatives

Energy efficiency remains one of the most effective and economical tools for reducing emissions while supporting economic growth. Since its inception, BEE has been at the vanguard of implementing policies and programmes that encourage responsible energy consumption coupled with the adoption of efficient technologies.

It also said that with Shri Panigrahy at the helm, such initiatives will be further strengthened.

“It now looks forward to strengthening the initiatives on energy efficiency and the efficient use of energy for achieving sustainable development goals set by India,” added a senior official.

Key Focus Areas Going Forward

Under the new Director General, BEE aims to build on its existing foundation and scale its impact. Key areas of focus include:

  • Expanding energy efficiency programmes across states
  • Strengthening standards and labelling for appliances and equipment
  • Promoting market transformation for efficient technologies
  • Supporting capacity building among utilities, industries, and institutions
  • Aligning energy efficiency efforts with India’s climate commitments
  • Supporting India’s Sustainable Development Goals

“Energy efficiency is vital to the achievement of reduced costs, improved security of energy supply, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Better use of energy aligns with the larger objectives for the development of the nation.”

“The selection of the new Director General in the person of Shri Krushna Chandra Panigrahy has been perceived as an important step in strengthening institutional leadership in the organisation. The organisation has expressed its assurance that its accelerated progress towards a cleaner and energy-efficient tomorrow would be realized during the tenure of the new Director General.”
