L&T Onshore Wins Major LNG and Petrochemical Project from Petronet LNG at Dahej

L&T’s Hydrocarbon Onshore business vertical (L&T Onshore) has secured a significant order from Petronet LNG, a joint venture promoted by leading PSUs – ONGC, IOCL, GAIL (India), and BPCL. The project will be executed on a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) basis, encompassing engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of critical storage infrastructure at the Dahej Petrochemical Complex, Gujarat.

The scope includes the construction of a 170,000 cubic metre LNG/Ethane double-wall storage tank and a 140,000 cubic metre Propane double-wall storage tank, along with Ethane and Propane handling and despatch facilities. These facilities will support the Propane Dehydrogenation and Polypropylene plant, forming a vital part of India’s first petrochemical complex integrating cold energy utilisation from an LNG terminal.

The project is expected to play a key role in bridging the domestic polypropylene demand–supply gap and aligns with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, strengthening indigenous petrochemical manufacturing capacity. The order underscores the industry’s confidence in L&T’s proven execution capabilities, particularly in delivering complex projects within strict timelines while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and excellence.

Leadership Commentary

Commenting on the award, Mr. Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director & President – L&T, said:

“This order is a significant milestone for us as we contribute to India’s first integrated petrochemical complex leveraging LNG cold energy. It aligns with the nation’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and strengthens indigenous petrochemical capacity.”

Mr. E S Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President & Head of L&T Onshore, added:

“Securing this prestigious order from Petronet LNG is a strong endorsement of our proven expertise in executing complex EPCC projects. We are fully committed to completing this project safely, efficiently and within the agreed timelines, while upholding the highest levels of quality.”

L&T Onshore’s Expertise

L&T Onshore is among India’s largest EPC businesses, delivering comprehensive Lump Sum Turnkey solutions across upstream, midstream, and downstream hydrocarbon sectors. With a strong execution track record, it has successfully delivered refinery expansions, petrochemical complexes, gas processing plants, fertiliser facilities, LNG terminals, and cross-country pipelines across multiple geographies.

This order further reinforces L&T Onshore’s leadership in executing complex hydrocarbon infrastructure projects, while contributing to India’s energy security and industrial growth.
