Moment Energy declared that its manufacturing facility in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, is now operating at full capacity, supplying its flagship battery energy storage systems (BESS) to meet the increasing demand of more than 5.6 GWh in North America.
The Moment Energy plant creates the Luna BESS, a modular system that can be scaled up to 10 MWh and converts used batteries into high-performance energy storage for business and industrial applications.
Demand for products like the Luna BESS is rising as a result of incentives like BC Hydro’s Energy Storage Incentive Program, which reimburses qualified firms for up to 90% of project expenses. These kinds of initiatives are becoming more popular throughout North America, establishing battery storage as a crucial component of decarbonization and grid resiliency.
“Over the past six years, Moment has worked closely with leading automakers to develop the safest and most advanced energy storage system on the market,” stated Edward Chiang, CEO and co-founder of Moment Energy. “Now with North America’s first UL 1974-certified facility repurposing batteries at scale, we’re able to take a crucial step toward securing critical battery material retention and modernizing the world’s grid.”
Demand rates are reduced by up to 50% thanks to the technology, which stores energy during off-peak hours and releases it during high demand. Additionally, it reduces dependency on diesel-powered backups and avoids interruptions.
Critical activities where dependability and cost reduction are paramount are powered by the Luna BESS. These include AI-powered data centers, medical facilities, airports, food processing facilities, concrete factories, and agricultural facilities.
“North America is seeing a major upswing in demand for battery energy storage, especially from commercial and industrial users,” stated Gurmesh Sidhu, CPO and cofounder of Moment Energy. “We’re responding to urgent needs in sectors like healthcare and transportation, where reliable power is not optional but essential.”
