Shri Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, has inaugurated a 45 kW On-Grid Solar Power System at a water pumping station in the North Goa district. The project has been implemented under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA), a PSU under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Expected to generate approximately 60,000 units of electricity annually, the solar power system will, firstly, achieve 100% solarization of the station’s pumping load. Moreover, the project serves as a practical example of how renewable energy can effectively and sustainably power essential public utilities like water distribution systems. Ultimately, the initiative clearly demonstrates a scalable and replicable model for clean energy adoption across the country. Consequently, it aligns with broader environmental and infrastructure development goals, contributing to India’s larger mission of energy transition and sustainability.
In a message, Shri Pradip Kumar Das, CMD, IREDA, said, “This initiative underlines IREDA’s commitment to extend clean energy beyond financing and into community development. Solarization of public services such as water pumping stations can become a replicable model for sustainable energy transition nationwide.”
The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials from IREDA’s CSR team, the Goa Drinking Water Department, and local authorities. The project reinforces IREDA’s role as not just a financier but a proactive contributor to India’s renewable energy landscape.
