Odisha Poised to Emerge as Major Green Energy Hub by 2036

Odisha is set to position itself as one of India’s leading green energy hubs by 2036, driven by large-scale investments, progressive policies, and a strong focus on clean energy manufacturing and deployment. The state’s ambitious vision was highlighted during recent deliberations involving government leaders, industry stakeholders, and clean energy experts.

Speaking on the state’s renewable energy roadmap, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Odisha into a preferred destination for green energy development. He underlined that the state is actively strengthening its renewable energy ecosystem by focusing on solar, wind, green hydrogen, energy storage, and associated manufacturing infrastructure.

The Chief Minister noted that Odisha offers a robust combination of policy support, skilled manpower, industrial-ready land, and port connectivity, making it well-positioned to attract domestic and global investments. He highlighted that clean energy development is not only essential for climate goals but also for driving industrial growth, employment generation, and long-term economic resilience.

Odisha has already made notable progress in renewable energy adoption and is now focusing on expanding capacity while simultaneously strengthening its supply chains. The state government is working closely with central agencies and private players to accelerate project implementation, improve grid infrastructure, and support emerging technologies such as battery energy storage systems and green hydrogen.

The vision to become a green energy hub by 2036 is closely aligned with India’s national climate commitments and energy transition goals. Odisha’s strategy places strong emphasis on integrating clean power generation with industrial demand, ensuring energy security while reducing carbon emissions.

Industry leaders participating in the discussions acknowledged Odisha’s proactive approach and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between government, industry, and financial institutions to achieve the state’s clean energy ambitions. They also stressed the need for sustained policy clarity and investment-friendly frameworks to enable long-term growth.

With a clear roadmap, enabling policies, and increasing investor interest, Odisha is steadily advancing toward its goal of becoming a major green energy hub by 2036. The state’s clean energy push is expected to play a significant role in supporting India’s transition to a low-carbon economy while creating new opportunities for innovation, manufacturing, and sustainable development.
