Ola Electric’s Shakti 9.1 kWh Residential Battery System Receives BIS Certification

Ola Electric has achieved a major regulatory milestone with its Shakti 9.1 kWh residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) powered by 4680 Bharat Cells, receiving Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification and licence. This approval positions Shakti as India’s first fully designed, engineered, and manufactured home energy storage system, ready for commercial rollout.

The BIS certification was granted under IS 16242 (Part 1): 2025 / IEC 62040‑1: 2017 standards, following rigorous testing at a BIS-recognised laboratory. The approval enables Ola Electric to commence deliveries of the 6 kW/9.1 kWh Shakti system by the end of January 2026, with the 3 kW/5.2 kWh system scheduled for mid‑February 2026. The systems are designed to power household appliances including air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication equipment, delivering fast charging and up to 1.5 hours of backup at full load.

Shakti is available in two variants: a 3 kW/5.2 kWh system priced at INR 1,49,999 and a 6 kW/9.1 kWh system priced at INR 2,49,999. Both variants are accessible for purchase via the Ola Electric website and company-owned stores across India.

Commenting on the certification, an Ola Electric spokesperson said, “We are pleased to announce that Ola Shakti has been successfully certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards. This milestone strengthens our commitment to provide reliable energy storage solutions to Indian homes and supports the country’s transition to more resilient, cleaner energy infrastructure.”

Shakti represents a significant step in Ola Electric’s strategy to expand into residential energy storage, leveraging its proprietary 4680 Bharat Cells to offer safer, high-performance battery solutions. The company emphasises delivering sustainable, reliable, and cost-effective energy options for Indian households while aligning with the nation’s broader renewable energy goals.

With BIS approval in hand, Ola Shakti is now poised to strengthen India’s home energy ecosystem, supporting reliable, clean, and technologically advanced energy storage solutions for a growing consumer base.
