PM E-DRIVE Scheme Achieves 21.24 Lakh Electric Vehicle Sales in India

The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, launched on 29 September 2024 with an outlay of ₹10,900 crore, has achieved significant progress in promoting electric mobility across India.

According to official updates, the aggressive targets set by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) for the e-3W (L5) segment have been surpassed ahead of schedule, with 2.88 lakh units sold, leading to the closure of incentives under the scheme for e-3Ws (L5) post 26 December 2025.

Highlighting the growth in EV adoption, officials noted, “EV penetration within the e-3W (L5) segment is now estimated at approximately 32%, aligning perfectly with the government’s vision to establish a self-sustaining electric mobility ecosystem,” said a spokesperson from MHI.

As of 30 December 2025, a total of 21.24 lakh electric vehicles have been sold under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme across multiple segments, reflecting robust adoption and accelerating India’s transition toward clean and sustainable transport solutions.

The scheme continues to support the government’s broader objectives of reducing fossil fuel dependency, promoting domestic manufacturing, and fostering green energy adoption, while ensuring a self-reliant EV ecosystem that benefits manufacturers, operators, and consumers alike.

No. of EVs Sold under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme as on 30.12.2025

Segment Target Nos. EVs Sold % Share No. of OEMS registered under scheme
  (A) (B) (C) (D)
e-2W 24,79,120 18,40,007 74% 19
e-rickshaw & e-cart 39,034 5,267 13% 5
e-3W(L5) 2,88,809 2,88,508 100% 15
Total for above 28,06,963 21,23,782 76%

Currently, e-2Ws have seen sales of 18,40,007 units against a target of nearly 24.79 lakh units. The incentive for e-2Ws and e-rickshaws/ e-carts under the Scheme shall continue up to 31/03/2026.
