The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, launched on 29 September 2024 with an outlay of ₹10,900 crore, has achieved significant progress in promoting electric mobility across India.
According to official updates, the aggressive targets set by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) for the e-3W (L5) segment have been surpassed ahead of schedule, with 2.88 lakh units sold, leading to the closure of incentives under the scheme for e-3Ws (L5) post 26 December 2025.
Highlighting the growth in EV adoption, officials noted, “EV penetration within the e-3W (L5) segment is now estimated at approximately 32%, aligning perfectly with the government’s vision to establish a self-sustaining electric mobility ecosystem,” said a spokesperson from MHI.
As of 30 December 2025, a total of 21.24 lakh electric vehicles have been sold under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme across multiple segments, reflecting robust adoption and accelerating India’s transition toward clean and sustainable transport solutions.
The scheme continues to support the government’s broader objectives of reducing fossil fuel dependency, promoting domestic manufacturing, and fostering green energy adoption, while ensuring a self-reliant EV ecosystem that benefits manufacturers, operators, and consumers alike.
