    Installation of EV Charging Points in Buildings Now Mandatory in Pune

    Implementing the initiatives written its EV Policy, the Pune Municipal Corporation has announced that the housing societies and commercial complexes have to install Electric Vehicle Charging points in the buildings mandatorily.

    Charging pointsThe decision comes following an Electric Vehicle policy 2021 of Maharashtra.

    According to the new rule, new housing societies having an arrangement of immovable parking space for 20 or more four-wheeler vehicles will have to install Electric Vehicle Charging points at 20 per cent of vehicle of its capacity.

    The societies will have to keep 30 per cent of charging points out of 20 per cent of the total available at common parking spaces. This would be applicable for the new construction and the civic body will consider this aspect while granting permission to the societies.

    For new commercial structures such as Educational Institutes, shopping malls, Multiplex, Hotels, IT Park etc where immovable parking space is 50 vehicles and above, they will have to install Electric Vehicle Charging Points available for 25 per cent of vehicles of their parking capacity.

    The commercial structures that are old having immovable parking space for 50 vehicles and above will have to install Electric Vehicle Charging Points for 10 per cent vehicles of their parking capacity.

    The civic body has appealed to the societies and commercial complexes to take the additional load and necessary permissions from the electricity department for the same.

    The policy was applied to all constructions effective from July 15, 2022.
