The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has officially announced the scheduling of a pre-bid meeting for its recently issued “Request for Proposals (RfP) for Selection of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Supplier for a 600 MW / 1200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) along with 15 years of Comprehensive Service and Maintenance (DC Package).” This initiative reflects SECI’s commitment to advancing India’s energy storage capabilities and strengthening the infrastructure necessary for integrating renewable energy at scale.

The pre-bid meeting is slated to take place on August 19, 2025, at 2:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST). To accommodate a wide range of participants and ensure accessibility, the meeting will be conducted in a hybrid format, enabling stakeholders to join either physically or virtually. The online component of the meeting will be facilitated through Microsoft Teams, a widely used video conferencing platform that supports seamless communication and collaboration across locations.

Invitations for the virtual meeting will be distributed to all relevant parties on August 18, 2025, providing sufficient time for preparation and coordination. This step ensures that all prospective bidders, technology providers, and interested stakeholders are well-informed and can actively participate in the discussions and clarifications related to the RfP.

This procurement process is a significant milestone in SECI’s efforts to bolster the country’s energy storage capacity, which is essential for supporting the increasing share of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind in India’s power grid. The battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 600 MW and 1200 MWh will play a critical role in managing grid stability, facilitating energy shifting, and ensuring reliable power supply during peak and off-peak periods.

The comprehensive service and maintenance package spanning 15 years, as included in the RfP, highlights SECI’s focus on long-term operational efficiency and sustainability of the energy storage infrastructure. The maintenance contract will cover the direct current (DC) package of the system, ensuring that the technological components remain in optimal working condition, thus minimizing downtime and enhancing overall system reliability.

By inviting bids for this large-scale BESS project, SECI is creating an open and competitive environment that encourages innovation and cost-effective solutions from suppliers. This will not only accelerate the deployment of advanced battery storage technologies but also contribute to the broader objective of integrating clean and renewable energy into India’s power system with greater efficiency.

Industry participants and potential bidders are expected to use the upcoming pre-bid meeting as an opportunity to seek clarifications, understand technical requirements, and align their proposals with SECI’s expectations. The hybrid mode of the meeting will enable participation from across the country and potentially from international players, ensuring a diverse pool of expertise and capabilities.

This RfP and the associated pre-bid meeting mark an important step toward strengthening India’s clean energy infrastructure. With the battery energy storage system’s critical role in grid balancing and renewable integration, this project supports India’s transition toward a sustainable and resilient energy future. Stakeholders keen on contributing to this transformative journey are encouraged to actively engage in the upcoming meeting and subsequent bidding process.
