Senvion India has announced that its 4.2M160 wind turbine model has been included in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) – Wind, issued on December 30, 2025. The inclusion marks a key milestone for the company as it strengthens its presence in India’s growing wind energy market.
The ALMM (Wind) framework, earlier known as the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM), is aimed at streamlining model qualification and enhancing quality assurance across the wind sector. Recent changes under the framework are also intended to boost localisation and reinforce domestic manufacturing capabilities.
With a rated capacity of 4.2 MW and a 160-metre rotor diameter, the Senvion 4.2M160 has been listed for hub heights up to 140 metres, enabling its deployment in full compliance with MNRE’s regulatory requirements. The company has already secured firm orders exceeding 600 MW for the turbine, along with a long-term framework agreement of 2 GW over three years, indicating strong market acceptance of the platform.
Designed and manufactured in India, the 4.2M160 features localisation levels above 85%, supported by a pan-India manufacturing footprint covering blades, towers, nacelles and hubs. The turbine is equipped with 78.5-metre ReT blades with advanced lightning protection, high derating thresholds of up to 45 degrees enabled by a hybrid active–passive cooling system, and single-blade installation capability to improve execution efficiency across varied terrains. It also includes FleetPro® SCADA for real-time monitoring, predictive analytics and compliance with grid and cybersecurity norms, along with AI-integrated adaptive controls to enhance energy capture in low-wind conditions.
Commenting on the development, Amit Kansal, CEO & Managing Director, Senvion India, said, “The ALMM (Wind) listing of our 4.2M160 is an important milestone in our commitment to India’s clean energy manufacturing ambition. Designed, engineered and industrialised in India, this turbine strengthens the domestic value chain, expands local production capacity, and supports the nation’s long-term energy security goals. By scaling localisation and deepening our Indian supply chain, we are enabling our customers with a future-ready, fully India-built platform that delivers predictable performance for years to come.”
Senvion India has been present in the country since 2016 and operates a world-class R&D setup. The company directly engages over 2,000 resources across the value chain, has a manufacturing capacity of 2 GW, and an operational wind portfolio exceeding 1.5 GW across India. It has successfully deployed turbines with 120, 130 and 140-metre rotor diameters, which are widely recognised as suitable for Indian wind conditions, reinforcing its role in supporting India’s clean energy transition.
