BHP and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), a pioneer in battery technology, have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Understanding the need for creative ways to address Scope 1 and 2 emissions, BHP is collaborating closely with CATL to investigate how current and developing technology may be applied throughout its operations.
For our BHP mining applications, BHP and CATL will investigate battery development prospects for locomotives and mining equipment, including quick charging infrastructure. They will also look at energy storage systems and battery recycling solutions.
By achieving net zero operational greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1 and 2 from its operated assets) by CY2050, BHP hopes to attain this aim.
As a pioneer in cutting-edge energy technologies worldwide, CATL is dedicated to developing solutions that will use cutting-edge technology to allow a net-zero future. They are creating innovative battery and energy solutions to help e-mobility and the energy transition. Their invention offers promising prospects for quickening the decarbonization shift in the mining sector.
BHP and CATL will collaborate to determine electrification routes for BHP’s mining facilities under this MOU. The partnership will also concentrate on ways to improve battery recycling procedures and promote the circular economy, particularly by using our copper activities to create more sustainable value chains in the mining industry.
