Billion Electric Mobility and Hindalco Launch Gujarat’s First Heavy-Duty Electric Freight Corridor

Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE) is an innovative electric mobility-as-a-service (eMaaS) platform that has implemented a strategic partnership with the Birla Copper Division of Hindalco Industries in order to roll out Gujarat’s first heavy-duty electric freight corridor. This partnership is an important milestone in changing the industrial transport in the region with the introduction of effective and sustainable logistics solutions.

According to this contract

BillionE will introduce 15 electric trucks with a capacity of 55 tons of Ashok Leyland in stages along the 160-kilometer route between Dahej and Asoj. These advanced electric trucks will run on the vast charging network of ChargeZone that has such strategic positions as Karjan, Bharuch, and another important station on the freight route. This will be a strong charging network that will allow smooth and consistent running of the heavy-duty fleet. After the successful execution of this first stage, BillionE will execute the expansion of the fleet by surely placing more electric trucks in operation to enhance the secondary transport services in major industrial centers like Vapi, Daman, and Silvassa. The growth will be added to the expansion of Gujarat network of zero-emission freight corridors, which will enhance the actions of the region in the area of sustainable transportation.

Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO of BillionE Mobility, emphasized the broader significance of this initiative: “Launching this heavy-duty electric freight corridor is more than just a milestone. It represents a transformation in how India moves goods at scale. Heavy logistics have long depended on fossil fuels, contributing to emissions and energy vulnerability. By deploying electric trucks, we are showing that industrial transport can be both efficient and sustainable. Our partnership with Hindalco is an important step toward creating a nationwide network of zero-emission freight corridors, helping businesses decarbonize operations while improving efficiency and reducing long-term costs.”

Echoing this vision, Bishnu Agarwal, Functional Head of the F&C Copper business at Hindalco Industries, highlighted the strategic importance of cleaner logistics for the company’s operations: “As logistics is the backbone of our business, it is our responsibility to drive change toward cleaner and smarter solutions. By transitioning to EVs, we are reducing our carbon footprint while improving efficiency with quieter, low-maintenance, and future-ready vehicles. This is sustainability as a business advantage, not just a regulatory requirement.”

Together, BillionE and Hindalco Industries are setting a powerful example of how industrial sectors can embrace electric mobility to enhance operational efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and pave the way for a greener future in freight transport across Gujarat and beyond.
