Delhi is preparing to open the first-ever multi-story electric bus depot in Hari Nagar, and it is a major step towards making the city transition to the sustainable use of public transport. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was the first to lay the foundation for the project, emphasizing the importance of the depot to modernize the transport infrastructure in Delhi and promote green mobility.
This innovative plant is expected to cost ₹420 crore and will accommodate 384 electric buses and will include 81 hi-tech EV charging points, which can charge the bus in a time of 40 minutes only. The depot that will be covering around 2 lakh square feet will also include retail and commercial areas to contribute towards making revenue and covering the operational costs.
Other facilities are 324 car parking slots, 104 two-wheelers, and two offices and dormitories of the Delhi Transport corporation (DTC) that are planned to facilitate efficient operational and administrative management. NBCC (India) Limited is undertaking the project, which will be completed within a period of 24 months.
The depot will enhance the efficiency of the electric bus services once it has been established and it should be used as a model of sustainable urban mobility. This project underlines the continuous activity of Delhi to reduce its carbon footprint and promote green transportation.
Hari Nagar depot is in the larger context of Hari Nagar, which is a part of the overall Sewa Pakhwada 2025 celebrations, in honor of the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and is yet another representation of how the city is committed to innovation, sustainability and development of modern infrastructure.
