The expansion of Germany’s EV charging infrastructure is being expedited by E.ON and the German Institute for Federal Real Estate (BImA). E.ON will set up 7,000 new charging points on federal properties by the second quarter of 2027, catering to institutions like federal ministries, research institutes, the Federal Network Agency, and BImA itself. The initiative seeks to assist in the electrification of federal fleets and provide convenient charging options for employees and visitors.

This collaboration will see the installation of a combination of DC fast chargers, AC chargers, and wallboxes at various locations throughout Germany, tailored to user requirements and parking times. E.ON will take care of installing, operating, and maintaining the stations to ensure they operate on 100% green electricity.

Brigitte Bourscheidt, who leads Facility Management at BImA, remarked, “Electric mobility plays a crucial role in protecting the climate. BImA has been informed by our users that there is a significant demand for charging points for their fleets. Being the main real estate company of the Federal Government, it is crucial for us to offer them optimal support in e-mobility and thereby play an active role in the energy turnaround.

The project encompasses smart charging and load management, enabling the prioritization of essential vehicles like emergency and company fleet cars. These vehicles are charged to the maximum extent possible, whereas guest users may encounter temporary reductions in order to enhance overall power distribution. This intelligent system improves charging efficiency, cuts costs, and guarantees smooth integration into the federal energy network.
