Ecofuel and TERI Partner to Advance India’s EV Charging and Sustainable Mobility

Ecofuel EV Charging Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) formalized a strategic partnership today by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing India’s e-mobility transition through collaborative research, smart charging solutions, and renewable energy-based EV charging infrastructure.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at the Dr. R. K. Pachauri Conference Room, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, in the presence of senior leadership from both organizations.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by Mr. A. K. Saxena, Senior Director, TERI, who highlighted the importance of industry-research collaborations in accelerating clean mobility adoption.

The special address was delivered by Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, who emphasized TERI’s commitment to supporting India’s EV ecosystem through science-based research and technology partnerships.

Dr. Dhawan remarked, “As we strive for net zero as a country—whether in corporate sectors, housing, or shipping—we must recognize that transport is the critical pivot point. For instance, through our Centre of Excellence for Green Ports and Shipping, we realized a fundamental truth: a port cannot be truly ‘green’ if the vehicles servicing it are not. To succeed, we must decarbonize the entire logistics fleet, making the transition to cleaner fuels and green vehicles essential.”

In their special remarks, Mr. Manoj Gupta, CEO, Ecofuel, and Mr. Abhay Kumar, Head of Sales & Marketing, Ecofuel, underscored the need for data-driven approaches to optimize EV charging operations and integrate renewable energy effectively into the EV supply chain.

Commenting on the MoU, Mr. Gupta said, “For India’s energy transition, Ecofuel’s experiential learning serves as a benchmark to support the EV-charging industry ecosystem. Through this strategic association with TERI, we aim to advance India’s leadership, to showcase our ecosystem’s competitive advantage, and to strengthen the ‘Make in India for the World’ vision. This collaboration also reinforces our commitment to driving technological advancement and fostering continuous innovation to charge up sustainable mobility.”

Under the partnership, Ecofuel and TERI will jointly undertake technical studies and pilot initiatives covering a wide range of areas crucial to the growth of India’s electric mobility ecosystem.

These include:

  • Assessment of the impact of EV charging on the electricity grid
  • Identification of optimal sites for EV charging station (EVCS) deployment
  • Evaluation of smart and controlled charging for e-bus operations
  • Use cases for renewable energy with storage for EV charging/battery swapping
  • Exploration of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) opportunities and emerging business models
  • Other allied technical and operational domains relevant to sustainable mobility

As an initial phase of collaboration, the two organizations will share operational data and insights from controlled/smart charging use cases in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi and other metropolitan cities to strengthen research and pilot demonstrations.

The partnership will operate on a project-to-project basis, with jointly identified initiatives and mutually agreed financial arrangements.

The MoU is valid for three years, with provisions for extension based on mutual agreement. Both Ecofuel and TERI reaffirmed their commitment to advancing clean transportation, reducing emissions, and strengthening India’s transition to a sustainable mobility future.

The formal signing of the MoU between Ecofuel and TERI was then carried out. The ceremony concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Alekhya Datta, Director, TERI, who reaffirmed the significance of the collaboration in driving sustainable mobility solutions.
