Energy Vault Holdings, Inc. a global leader in grid-scale energy storage solutions, has announced the acquisition of the McMurtre Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a 175 MW / 350 MWh project near Dallas, Texas. The project, acquired from Belltown Power, adds significantly to Energy Vault’s U.S. energy storage portfolio and advances its previously announced target of deploying 1,500 MW of BESS capacity. The company plans to contribute McMurtre to its Asset Vault investment platform once the project achieves Ready-to-Build (RTB) status.
Strategic Location and Market Potential
McMurtre is in the ERCOT North market, which is one of the fastest-growing power markets in the U.S. It was chosen because it has a lot of potential for making money, a stable grid, and is close to data centers that are growing quickly near Dallas. The project has signed a Small Generator Interconnection Agreement (SGIA) and has full control of the site, which makes it clear how to build it. Notice to Proceed (NTP) is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, and commercial operations are planned to start in December 2027. Estimated revenues are $15–$20 million annually, translating to $350–$375 million+ over the project’s lifetime.
CEO Statement
“The McMurtre BESS is a prime example of the high-quality, strategic assets we are focused on building,” said Robert Piconi, Chairman and CEO of Energy Vault. “With strong positioning in ERCOT North, full site control, and an executed SGIA, McMurtre strengthens our Asset Vault platform and advances our 1,500 MW BESS deployment roadmap.”
Technology and Portfolio Strategy
McMurtre will use Energy Vault’s B-VAULT™ AC Technology Platform 3, which is made for quick, cheap deployment and high system availability. Energy Vault’s B-VAULT™ portfolio now has more than 3 GWh of energy storage in Europe, North America, and Australia. The Asset Vault platform combines ownership, EPC, and long-term service agreements to create recurring revenue and make the best use of strategic capital.
McMurtre reinforces Energy Vault’s strategy to provide critical, sustainable energy infrastructure, supporting the global AI-driven energy transformation and advancing multi-asset class integration with powered land and powered shell offerings.
