esVolta, LP, a prominent developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale battery energy storage projects in the US, reports that three of its battery energy storage projects in Texas have started up. When combined, the portfolio will supply around 1 GWh of energy and 490 MW of peak electricity, or about 4% of the 12.2 GW of storage capacity that ERCOT expects to have by July 2025.
The three projects demonstrate how Texas is gaining pace to become the state with the largest storage installations because of cutting-edge technology, including lithium-iron phosphate batteries, executional know-how, and creative financing arrangements.
Named after local species, the 300 MWh Desert Willow project and the 480 MWh Anole project have started supplying energy to the system that serves Dallas, a thriving metropolis that has the fifth-highest power usage in the United States. The 200 MWh Burksol plant in West Texas started operating commercially in March 2025, providing assistance to the local people by connecting to the grid of the Wind Energy Transmission of Texas. In order to ease traffic and fortify the regional electric grid, the three projects will provide the ERCOT market with quick-responding electricity and auxiliary services.
As the developer, owner, and operator of these three projects, esVolta worked on engineering, procurement, and construction with Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group at Anole and Saber Power at Desert Willow and Burksol. In its seven years in business, esVolta has established a solid reputation as a pioneer in project execution, intelligent design, and the best financing methods. Customers rely on esVolta to oversee energy storage installations in order to guarantee the advantages of grid dependability. Extreme weather-driven outages can already be avoided with energy storage, and esVolta is ideally positioned to contribute significantly to the development of Texas’ energy infrastructure.
In order to finance the portfolio, esVolta secured construction and term loan financing from a group of lenders headed by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) and collaborated with Captona LLC for a preferred equity investment. With the help of this funding and the anticipated transfer of investment tax credits from the projects, esVolta was able to acquire top-tier partnerships in construction, operations, and technology.
“Texas is at the forefront of the energy transition, and large-scale battery storage is playing a critical role in ensuring a reliable and resilient grid,” stated Randolph Mann, Chief Executive Officer of esVolta. “By bringing these three projects online ahead of peak summer demand, we are helping to stabilize the ERCOT grid and meet the state’s growing demand for electricity. Our commitment to deploying cutting-edge technology and driving innovation underscore esVolta’s dedication to delivering real solutions for Texas’ growing energy needs.”
