Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday opened the Hydrogen Zone at India Energy Week (IEW) 2026. This highlights India’s growing focus on hydrogen as an essential part of its low-carbon energy transition.
The Hydrogen Zone opened right after the main ceremony of the global energy event. Oil India is hosting this zone. It displays a variety of hydrogen technologies and solutions, including hydrogen production, storage, and use. It provides insights into the pathways that are shaping clean energy transitions around the world.
Focus on Decarbonising Hard-to-Abate Sectors
According to officials, the Hydrogen Zone has been designed to demonstrate how hydrogen can support the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors such as:
- Refining
- Fertilisers
- Steel
- Mobility
The initiative also aims to position India as a competitive and reliable participant in emerging global hydrogen markets, aligned with the country’s long-term energy and climate objectives.
Strategic Role Within IEW 2026
