IIT Kanpur and PFI Sign MoU to Strengthen Power Sector Research

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and the Power Foundation of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the PFI Distinguished Chair Professorship on Power Sector Regulation and Policy at IIT Kanpur. The initiative aims to recognise and promote excellence in teaching, research, and leadership in power sector regulation and policy, while fostering deeper engagement among academia, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.

The MoU was signed by Shri Anshuman Srivastava, Executive Director, PFI, and Prof. Raja Angamuthu, Associate Dean (Research & Development) and currently Acting Dean, Dean of Resources & Alumni, IIT Kanpur. Shri Himanshu Chawla, Head Regulatory & Research, PFI, and Ms. Nidhi Varma, Assistant Registrar, Office of Dean Resources & Alumni, witnessed the signing.

Prof. Raja Angamuthu spoke at the event and said that the MoU is a big step forward for IIT Kanpur and will help the school become even more involved in the energy field. He said that the Chair Professorship will help build a strong base for research, education, and policy making in the power sector.

Sharing his views, Mr. Srivastava expressed that PFI is pleased to partner with IIT Kanpur and is confident that this initiative will enhance research in power sector policy while supporting informed decision-making processes.

The partnership is expected to encourage new ideas and strengthen ties between businesses and schools, including public sector undertakings (PSUs). This will help India find effective and long-lasting solutions for its power sector.
