India Achieves Nearly 19.5 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations Under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, submitted a written report in the Rajya Sabha stated that the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), launched in February 2024, aims to install rooftop solar (RTS) systems in one crore households by FY 2026-27 with a total outlay of ₹75,021 crore.

As of 9th December 2025, 19,45,758 RTS systems have been installed, benefitting 24,35,196 households across the country. Beneficiaries receive zero electricity bills after installation, with subsidies and collateral-free loans at 5.75% interest available to make systems economically viable.

To support rural and economically weaker sections, the Ministry has also issued guidelines for installations under Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA)/RESCO models.

This initiative strengthens India’s rooftop solar capacity while promoting affordable, clean energy access for millions of households nationwide.

State wise details of progress made under the PMSG: MBY (as on 09.12.2025)
