The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) on 12 December 2025 announced the signing of a Statement of Intent (SoI) with GEAPP ServiceCo (India) Private Limited, part of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, to enhance cooperation in advancing India’s clean energy transition and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and allied clean technologies in line with national climate and sustainability goals.
The SoI was exchanged between “Shri Akash Tripathi, Managing Director, SECI” and “Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Vice President – India, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet”, in the presence of senior officials of SECI. On behalf of SECI, the SoI was signed by “Shri Prashant Soni, DGM (Project Monitoring)”, under the overall guidance of “Shri Sivakumar V Vepakomma, Director (Power Systems), SECI”.
The partnership is intended to support India in addressing the dual challenge of meeting rapidly growing energy demand while transitioning towards a cleaner and greener energy mix, aligned with the country’s Net-Zero target for 2070. While India has already surpassed its initial climate commitments, the transition away from conventional fuels requires a significant scale-up of clean energy capacity and supporting infrastructure.
Under the SoI, SECI and the Alliance will collaborate on renewable energy integration and grid strengthening, energy transition planning, utility digitisation, and the adoption of emerging clean energy technologies. The scope of cooperation also includes capacity building, knowledge sharing, and the development of analytical tools and frameworks for the power sector, aligned with national priorities on energy security, sustainability, and climate action.
A key focus of the collaboration will be grid stability and integration, particularly in the context of large-scale deployment of variable renewable energy such as solar and wind. The partnership will support solutions including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), smart grid management, and innovative renewable energy project configurations such as Round-the-Clock (RTC) power and Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE), pioneered by SECI.
A senior SECI official said, “This strategic collaboration with the Global Energy Alliance is a major step in furthering SECI’s role as the implementing arm of India’s renewable energy ambitions. Through our combined expertise in executing pioneering RE projects, we can effectively address the challenges of grid integration, storage, and firm power. This partnership is vital to ensuring a reliable, affordable, and green power supply for every part of India.”
The collaboration will adopt a multi-pronged approach to mobilise finance, provide technical assistance, and de-risk emerging clean energy technologies. Key areas include comprehensive energy transition planning using modelling, forecasting, and system studies, as well as a strong focus on emerging solutions such as Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The entities will also cooperate on energy efficiency, demand-side management, and consumer-centric interventions, supported by digitisation initiatives including asset mapping, data analytics, and intelligent grid systems.
Concepts validated through studies or pilot projects undertaken by the Alliance and found mutually feasible will be taken forward for implementation through tenders or requests for proposals to select suitable agencies for execution.
“India’s commitment to a rapid and equitable energy transition is a powerful example for the world. Our partnership with SECI underscores our mission to accelerate green economic opportunity for people and the planet. By focusing our efforts on innovative financial mechanisms and cutting-edge technologies like battery storage, we are helping to build a resilient energy system that will support India’s growth and its global climate leadership,” said “Saurabh Kumar, Vice President, India, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet”.
The collaboration builds on the Alliance’s ongoing initiatives in digitalisation and innovation, including programmes such as Digitalisation of Utilities for Energy Transition (DUET) and energy transition planning across various states, and reinforces SECI’s role in advancing India’s clean energy and climate action agenda.
