Juniper Green Energy Begins Commissioning of India’s First FDRE Project

Juniper Green Energy Limited has initiated the commissioning of what is being described as India’s first firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project, marking a significant milestone in the country’s evolving clean energy landscape.

Across Rajasthan and Gujarat, the project includes 259 MWp of solar power, 280 MW of wind power, and a 200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The hybrid setup is meant to provide scheduled renewable power that matches grid demand, which solves the problems of intermittent power generation that come with using only solar or wind power.

“This marks the start of India’s first Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy project,” said Ankush Malik, CEO of Juniper Green Energy Limited.

Aligning Renewable Energy with Grid Demand

The development follows the introduction of FDRE guidelines by the Ministry of Power in June 2023. These guidelines mandate the integration of solar, wind, and energy storage into a single system capable of supplying firm and scheduled power to distribution companies.

As India’s renewable energy capacity grows, grid stability has become a major issue because solar and wind output can change. FDRE projects try to lessen these changes by combining different sources of generation with storage.

Solar and Storage Components Operational

The solar component of the project, with a capacity of 259 MWp, commenced commercial operations in March 2026. This was followed by the commissioning of the 200 MWh battery energy storage system in April 2026, enhancing the project’s ability to deliver dispatchable power.

The project was awarded under a tender floated by SJVN Limited. Juniper Green Energy has signed a 200 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with SJVN, which has a back-to-back agreement with the Haryana Power Purchase Centre for electricity supply.

Growing Momentum in FDRE Segment

Since the FDRE guidelines were put in place, agencies like NHPC, SECI, and NTPC have put out more than 10 tenders worth more than 14 GW. About 10 GW of this work is currently being done.

Headquartered in Delhi NCR, Juniper Green Energy is an independent power producer with an operational capacity of around 1.66 GWp as of January 2026. The company is part of the AT Capital Group, a Singapore-based investment firm. Juniper Green Energy’s FDRE project highlights the growing role of FDRE solutions in delivering reliable renewable power across India.
