A new chapter in LG Energy Solution and General Motors’ (GM) 14-year partnership on battery advancements has begun with the announcement of a ground-breaking agreement to jointly develop prismatic battery cell technology.

As the only battery producer in the world to provide all three of the main cell form factors—porous, cylindrical, and prismatic—this arrangement marks a significant turning point for LG Energy Solution. Future GM electric cars (EVs) will be powered by the cutting-edge prismatic cell technology, further securing the automaker’s place in the quickly changing EV market.

Known for their flat, rectangular form and effective use of space, prismatic cells are becoming more and more popular due to the advantages of their modular design.
