The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has temporarily deactivated 66 registered vendors under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for one month over a significant backlog of pending rooftop solar applications. The ministry has directed the vendors to clear the backlog within 30 days, warning that failure to do so could result in further restrictions.
In a notice, MNRE said a comprehensive analysis of portal data had found that a section of registered vendors had accumulated “Agreement Uploaded” applications far beyond their demonstrated installation capacity during the April-June 2026 quarter. According to the ministry, such accumulation amounts to artificial hoarding of applications, compromises consumer choice and could delay subsidy disbursement.
The action comes with less than nine months remaining before the conclusion of the PM Surya Ghar scheme. MNRE said it is seeking to ensure that consumers who have executed vendor agreements receive their rooftop solar installations within a defined timeframe.
The 66 vendors identified as underperforming have been placed under immediate one-month deactivation based on the high number of pending applications and projected completion times that exceed reasonable scheme timelines, according to the notice.
During the deactivation period, the affected vendors will not be permitted to accept new consumer applications and will no longer appear on the consumer vendor-selection page. However, their portal access will remain active for completing installations against applications that they have already taken up.
MNRE has given the vendors 30 days to improve their performance and clear their pending applications. Vendors that bring their delivery pendency within acceptable scheme timelines during this period can be reactivated, while those failing to improve their performance metrics could face an extension of the deactivation.
The ministry has also advised registered vendors not to retain consumer applications for more than 60 days without valid reasons and to accept applications in line with their actual execution capacity.
With the goal of preventing the buildup of applications that vendors would not be able to service throughout the remaining term of the plan, the government effectively places more focus on execution capacity among vendors taking part in the rooftop solar program.
