Montra Rhino 5538EV Crosses 1.2 Crore Km, Cuts 3.79 Million Tons CO₂ in Under 2 Years

Montra Electric M&HCV, has reported a major achievement of its flagship heavy-duty electric vehicle, the Rhino 5538EV, which, in less than two years of its release, has already travelled over 1.2 crore kilometers over the Indian roads. Having a fleet of 350 trucks, Rhino has shown a reliable approach over the years as a steel, cement and port logistics application, as it has cut down more than 3.79 million tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Celebrating this milestone, Mr. Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility) says, “This milestone is a powerful validation of India’s transition to clean mobility. With the Rhino 5538EV, we are proving that electric heavy transport isn’t a distant future, it’s already a reality on Indian roads. It reflects our commitment to innovation with purpose and to accelerating sustainable, cost-efficient logistics.”

The Rhino heavy-duty EV trucks have provided real value to the customer with an ever-growing fleet that has provided massive influence to essential industries like steel, cement, and port logistics. These EV trucks are early adopters by major cement and steel companies and have made repeat orders in the last two years.

The Rhino 5538EV has a current uptime of more than 98 and has proven consistent reliability in the high-demand industrial situational requirements. The trucks are also assisting businesses in decarbonizing faster besides reducing operating expenses due to fuel and maintenance expenses. The 24/7 on-site service support can also guarantee high uptime and productivity.

It has transported a massive 1.2 crore kilometers during this period of two years alone, with the Montra Electric M&HCV fleet eliminating about 3.79 million tons of CO₂, which is equal to the absorbing capacity of about 181 million trees. This is a huge environmental success and a great move towards clean freight transport.

The Rhino EV product line falls within a heavy commercial variety that will include the 6×4 tractor trailer. It will also soon have a 4×2 tractor trailer and a 6×4 configuration tipper. One of the EV initiatives of the Murugappa Group, Rhino, was developed by Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility), which uses a 282 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery and a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) with the highest power output in its category. They both provide 280 kW (380 hp) and 2000 Nm (torque). The truck will be able to charge at 240 kW and can charge its battery up to 20 and 100 percent in 60 minutes with a certified range of 169 km at standard test conditions.

Rhino trucks are engineered to deliver comfort to the pilot in the cabin with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) to provide the pilot with a feeling of clutchless driving, low NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), effortless power delivery, and assured handling whether loaded or unloaded. The drivers have always posted positive comments, citing Rhino as a car to enjoy driving.

Rhino was designed on a robust and rough driveline and includes a robust chassis frame and established aggregates such as heavy-duty bogie suspension, Meritor axles and Wabco air brakes. Rhino also commands the Indian roads with its muscular cabin and fancy decals.
