NHPC Limited and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in Agartala for the procurement of power from NHPC’s 1,720 MW Kamala Hydroelectric Project located in Arunachal Pradesh.
The agreement provides for the supply of power from the project to TSECL for a period of 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD), reinforcing the long-term commitment of both organisations to ensuring a reliable, clean, and sustainable supply of hydroelectric power for the people of Tripura. The partnership is expected to strengthen the state’s power infrastructure while supporting the growing demand for renewable energy.
The signing of the PPA represents an important milestone in the collaboration between NHPC and TSECL and reflects their shared focus on expanding access to sustainable energy through hydropower. The agreement also aligns with broader efforts to enhance long-term energy security and promote the adoption of clean energy sources.
Highlighting the significance of the agreement, Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC said, “The signing of this long-term PPA marks another significant step in NHPC’s commitment to strengthening India’s clean energy transition through reliable and sustainable hydropower. This partnership contributes towards ensuring long-term energy security while supporting the nation’s renewable energy goals.”
The Power Purchase Agreement was signed by Shri Ranjeet Thakur, General Manager (Commercial), NHPC, and Ms. Sujata Sarkar, Deputy General Manager (Commercial), TSECL, in the presence of Shri Abhisek Singh, IAS, Secretary, Department of Power, Government of Tripura; Shri Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, TSECL, and senior officials from both organisations. The signing ceremony took place during the “Destination Tripura: Business Conclave 2026,” organised by the Government of Tripura, which brought together key stakeholders to promote investment and infrastructure development in the state.
