NHPC’s Kishanganga Power Station Sets New Generation Record in FY 2025–26

NHPC Limited has achieved a significant milestone with its Kishanganga Power Station recording its highest-ever electricity generation since commissioning. As of March 17, 2026, the plant generated 1506.52 million units (MUs) of electricity in the financial year 2025–26.

Record-Breaking Performance

This accomplishment breaks the station’s previous record of 1505.97 MUs set in the 2021–22 financial year, setting a new high in its operational history. The Kishanganga Power Station has been providing energy to the region since it was built in 2018. It has been a key part of making power more available in Jammu & Kashmir.

The latest performance reflects the plant’s improved efficiency and operational capabilities, despite challenging working conditions often associated with hydropower projects in mountainous terrains.

Leadership Commends Team Efforts

Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC, praised the team behind the achievement and acknowledged their dedication and resilience.

He stated, “The success of the Kishanganga Power Station is a testament to the hard work, resilience, and technical expertise of our team. Their sustained efforts have enabled NHPC to set new benchmarks in hydroelectric generation.”

Strengthening Renewable Energy Contribution

The Kishanganga project is still a major part of the region’s energy security and helps with projects that promote sustainable development. NHPC is dedicated to increasing the production of renewable energy in India, especially through hydropower, as shown by its steady performance.

The milestone also shows that the company is focused on improving plant performance by better managing operations and using new technologies. NHPC wants to get the most out of its current assets by always making them more efficient.

Supporting India’s Energy Transition

NHPC’s success strengthens its position as a leader in India’s clean energy landscape, especially since hydropower is so important for balancing other renewable energy sources. The company is still working on making its generation more reliable and powerful, which helps the country reach its bigger goals for renewable energy.

The record performance at Kishanganga Power Station stands as a testament to NHPC’s operational excellence and its ongoing efforts to set new standards in hydroelectric power generation.
