NLC India Partners with Gujarat Government for ₹25,000 Crore Renewable Energy Initiative

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has announced a strategic partnership with the Government of Gujarat to develop large-scale renewable energy projects. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), involves an estimated ₹25,000 crore investment, marking one of the most significant green energy initiatives in the state this year. The MoU was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for the Saurashtra and Kutch region in Rajkot.

Scope of the Agreement

The partnership aims to diversify Gujarat’s energy mix by building extensive capacity across multiple green technologies. The project pipeline includes:

  • Solar and wind power
  • Hybrid systems
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

These projects will be led by NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly-owned subsidiary dedicated to NLCIL’s clean energy portfolio. The MoU was executed by Devendra Pratap Singh, CEO of NIRL, and Bhakthi Shamal, Joint Secretary of the Energy & Petrochemicals Department, Gujarat.

High-ranking officials, including Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and several Gujarat state ministers, attended the signing ceremony, underlining the initiative’s importance.

Government Support and Regulatory Facilitation

To ensure timely project execution, the Government of Gujarat has pledged to provide a streamlined regulatory environment, including administrative approvals, technical clearances, and policy-driven support. This facilitation is expected to accelerate project development and strengthen investor confidence.

NLC India’s Renewable Vision to 2030

This partnership is a cornerstone of NLCIL’s “Navratna” vision, aimed at transitioning from a coal-centric enterprise to a diversified energy leader. The company plans to achieve 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

While aggressively expanding its green footprint, NLC India faces the challenges of a transitioning energy sector. For the quarter ending September 2025, the company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹665 crore, reflecting a 27.1% decrease from ₹912 crore in the same period last year.
