A Romanian energy firm, Nova Power & Gas, which is also one of the firms of the E-INFRA conglomerate, announces the beginning of the biggest battery storage project in Romania. The project that will be constructed in Floresti, Cluj County, will provide 200 MW/400 MWh, the working capacity of which is to be deployed at the end of 2025. Afterwards, a second (additional) 600 MW / 1200 MWh storage project will be constructed by 2028. Meanwhile, the trust proclaims spending on 150 and 200 MW power plants, which will be gas-powered.
The construction of the first storage park will create two times as much energy storage capacity in total in Romania, thereby contributing directly to the stability of the national grid and efficient integration of renewable sources, the company adds.
“In addition to this project, Nova Power & Gas continues its investments in energy infrastructure and announces the start-up of a 150 MW gas-fired power plant in Câmpia Turzii, with a commissioning deadline for the first stage in December 2026. At the same time, our plans until 2028 include the development of a new 200 MW gas-fired power plant and the development of new 600 MW / 1,200 MWh storage facilities.”
“Through these investments, we aim to maintain and strengthen our leading position in the field of storage and to invest heavily in the production of electricity in gas-fired power plants in order to support the balance and flexibility of the energy system,” said Septimiu Costea, CTO of Nova Power & Gas.
There are already 240 MWh in operation, but Nova is already the national leader in energy storage capacities. Meanwhile, the company heavily invests in electricity production and has acquired the power plants in renewable power production and gas-fired power production.
Simultaneously, Nova is one of the largest providers of electricity and natural gas, and in 2024, more than 4.6 TWh of energy and gas supplies were provided, and its turnover was almost 3 billion lei. Based on the ANRE comparator, the company has always been ranked as one of the suppliers with the most favorable prices.
The company is not a new entrant either, as its subsidiaries are found in Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and the Republic of Moldova.
