National Power Training Institute (NPTI) has also entered into a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with All India Discom Association (AIDA) to increase the cooperation and hence improve capacity building in the power distribution industry in India. This strategic partnership will be aimed at strengthening the cooperation between the two organizations, improving the technological base, and promoting the inclusive development in the context of the power distribution at the national level.
Dr. Tripta Thakur, Director General of NPTI and Shri Alok Kumar (Retd.), Director General of AIDA and former Energy Secretary, signed the
MoU, representing a shared obligation to respond to the emerging issues and needs of the power distribution industry. The collaboration emphasizes a comprehensive assessment of the training requirements of the staff in DISCOM in order to ensure that the employees are well-versed in the most recent skills and knowledge that are required by the existing power delivery systems.
The provision
The provision of specialized capacity-building programs across a wide range of sophisticated technologies is one of the major areas of focus in this agreement. These can be smart metering, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, data analytics, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), blockchain technology, and IT/Operational Technology (OT) integration, network planning, and energy accounting. These are meant to equip the workforce with the digital revolution that is taking place in the power distribution sector.
Also, the collaboration highlights the significance of gender diversity promotion through a shift towards technical training that is specifically designed to target women. The idea behind this is to get more women involved and also to be in influential positions so that women can be able to play more proactive roles in this male-dominated industry.
In addition to training, the MoU will provide ongoing exchange of knowledge between NPTI and AIDA in the form of seminars, workshops and common research studies. These activities will center around key issues and emerging trends, which will further contribute to the power distribution ecosystem.
This partnership is a milestone in the development of an efficient, contemporary, and future-oriented power distribution system in India that will be capable of addressing the challenges of the rapidly growing energy sector.
