NTPC has further strengthened its renewable energy portfolio by commissioning an additional 13.98 MW of solar power capacity at its Khavda-I Solar PV Project in Gujarat. This newly commissioned capacity represents the ninth part of the 1,255 MW Khavda-I project and has been declared commercially operational with effect from 00:00 hours on 30 December 2025.
The Khavda-I Solar PV Project is being developed under the CPSU Scheme Phase-II, Tranche-III by NTPC Renewable Energy, through NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC. The project forms an important component of NTPC’s strategy to significantly expand its renewable energy footprint and contribute to India’s transition toward a low-carbon and sustainable energy mix.
With the commissioning of the latest 13.98 MW capacity, the commercial capacity of the NTPC Green Energy Limited Group has increased to 7,996.30 MW. At the same time, the total installed capacity of the NGEL Group has risen to 8,010.28 MW, reflecting steady progress in scaling up clean energy assets across the country. These milestones highlight NTPC’s consistent efforts to commission renewable projects in a phased and systematic manner.
The Khavda region of Gujarat, where the project is located, has emerged as a major hub for large-scale renewable energy development in India due to its vast land availability and favorable solar conditions. NTPC continues to advance construction and grid integration at the Khavda site, commissioning capacity in phases as different segments of the project reach completion.
At the group level, the addition of this capacity has helped push NTPC’s total installed and commercial power generation capacity to 85,637 MW, reinforcing its position as India’s largest power producer. The ongoing development of the Khavda-I Solar PV Project underlines NTPC’s growing focus on renewable energy and its role as a key driver of the country’s clean energy expansion.
Through projects such as Khavda-I, NTPC aims to support national renewable energy targets while ensuring reliable and sustainable power supply across India.
