NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has issued a major solar-plus-storage tender on behalf of NTPC UP Green Energy Limited (NUGEL). The project involves the development of a 100 MW ground-mounted solar PV plant along with a 50 MW/200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The bidding process will follow a domestic competitive route using a single-stage, two-envelope system, followed by a reverse auction. Bids are invited until May 4, 2026, with submissions closing at 3:00 PM and opening at 3:30 PM the same day.
Comprehensive Solar Project Scope
The solar part includes designing, building, supplying, installing, testing, and starting up the 100 MW plant. Bidders must use a tracker system with a fixed tilt. The scope also includes site development tasks like levelling, grading, clearing vegetation, topographical surveys, and geotechnical investigations. Contractors will also build inverter rooms, extra high voltage (EHV) switchyards, and internal roads, and make sure that SCADA is set up for monitoring and control. The solar plant needs operation and maintenance services for three years.
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Requirements
The BESS scope covers a turnkey solution, including design, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning to meet strict technical and performance criteria. The system must achieve a minimum monthly round-trip efficiency of 80%, maintain 98% monthly availability, and guarantee at least 92% dispatchable capacity at the point of interconnection (POI) over a 15-year operation period. Batteries must support a minimum of 10,000 cycles and the overall system must have a design life of 25 years. Contractors are also responsible for comprehensive O&M, warranty, service level agreements, and insurance for 15 years. A hybrid Energy Management System (EMS) will manage the coordination between solar and BESS components and ensure grid compliance.
Tender Schedule and Access
The tender was officially issued on March 21, 2026, with sale of bidding documents starting April 3 and ending April 17, 2026. Detailed tender documents, including Earnest Money Deposit and Performance Bank Guarantee information, are available on the NTPC tender portal and the Bharat Electronic Tender platform.
The project should help the clean energy transition by making the grid more stable and making it easier to use renewable energy in Uttar Pradesh.
