EKA Mobility has commenced the deployment of its EKA 9M electric buses for the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), marking a significant step toward sustainable public transport in Odisha. The rollout, in collaboration with Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., aims to enhance urban mobility while promoting zero-emission transportation.

The buses were virtually flagged off by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, reflecting the state’s continued focus on clean and efficient public transport solutions. The initiative forms part of Odisha’s larger strategy to modernize its urban transport fleet with environmentally friendly vehicles.

Fleet Expansion and Deployment Details

The project includes a total of 100 EKA electric buses, which will operate across the capital region to expand CRUT’s passenger transport capacity. The deployment is expected to improve service frequency, accessibility, and sustainability in the region’s public transport network.

The EKA 9M is a 9-meter-long electric bus designed to seat 35 passengers. It includes wheelchair accessibility to ensure inclusivity for all commuters. Powered by a 213 kW motor and a 200 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system, the bus combines efficiency with reliability, making it suitable for urban operations.

Industry Perspectives

Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, highlighted the deployment as a key milestone in India’s journey toward sustainable urban mobility. He emphasized that the initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions while improving passenger experience through advanced electric vehicle technology.

Vivek Kalkar, Director at Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., described the project as a step toward developing clean mobility infrastructure in Odisha, with his company managing operational aspects of the bus deployment for CRUT.

EKA Mobility operates as Pinnacle Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and has equity partnerships with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Japan) and VDL Groep (Netherlands). The company specializes in commercial electric mobility solutions and manufactures electric buses for urban and rural transport across India.

The Odisha deployment forms part of EKA Mobility’s ongoing expansion, supporting India’s national transition to electric public transport systems and reinforcing the country’s commitment to cleaner, greener cities.
