Ola Electric’s Shakti 9.1 kWh Residential Battery System Receives BIS Certification

India’s EV and energy solutions maker Ola Electric has started delivering its Ola Shakti residential battery energy storage system (BESS) in the country, marking another milestone in the adoption of home energy storage solutions. The rollout began with the larger 6 kW/9.1 kWh variant in Bengaluru and is expected to expand across India in the coming months.

Ola Shakti is designed as a modern, clean alternative to traditional lead-acid inverters and diesel generators, offering instant switchover, wide voltage support, and enhanced safety. The larger 9.1 kWh system is now being delivered to customers, while the smaller 3 kW/5.2 kWh version has received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification, ensuring compliance with national safety and performance norms.

Deliveries Underway and Certifications Completed

The company has begun dispatching the 6 kW/9.1 kWh Ola Shakti BESS from Bengaluru, with nationwide deliveries planned to follow over the next few months. The 3 kW/5.2 kWh configuration recently secured BIS certification, confirming that it meets mandatory safety standards covering overload protection, shock protection, thermal and environmental protections, and other critical evaluations.

The residential BESS segment is gaining traction in India as households and small businesses look for reliable backup power solutions amid grid fluctuations and rising energy costs. Ola Shakti’s features — including zero-millisecond changeover, wide input voltage range, and IP67-rated durability — aim to deliver a dependable energy storage option that can power sensitive appliances without interruption.

Product Positioning and Features

Ola Shakti’s key characteristics include:

  • Automotive-grade safety and high efficiency
  • Instant switchover (0 ms) from grid to battery power
  • Wide operating voltage range (170 V–270 V)
  • IP67 protection against dust, water, and environmental hazards

Designed to power appliances such as ACs, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication equipment during outages

Zero running and maintenance costs compared with conventional backup systems

Market Pricing and Availability

According to earlier reports, the Ola Shakti BESS is available in two configurations:

  • 3 kW/5.2 kWh — priced at around ₹1,49,999
  • 6 kW/9.1 kWh — priced at around ₹2,49,999

Deliveries for the larger 9.1 kWh unit began in late January 2026, while the smaller 5.2 kWh model is expected to be delivered beginning mid-February 2026.
