Ola Electric Enters Residential Energy Storage Market with Launch of Ola Shakti

Ola Electric has expanded beyond electric vehicles with the launch of its first residential battery energy storage system (BESS), Ola Shakti, marking the company’s formal entry into India’s home energy storage segment. The product was unveiled at Ola Electric’s Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, underscoring the company’s push into clean energy solutions alongside its automotive business.

Ola Shakti is powered by the company’s indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cells, which are designed, engineered, and manufactured entirely in India. According to Ola Electric, this makes Ola Shakti India’s first fully domestically made residential BESS. The system has been developed to serve households, farms, and small businesses, offering a portable and on-demand power backup solution during electricity outages.

Highlighting its focus on innovation and self-reliance, Ola Electric said the launch reflects its broader strategy to make energy storage accessible, reliable, and affordable for Indian consumers. A company spokesperson described Ola Shakti as a key step toward simplifying energy storage while supporting India’s clean energy transition.

Positioned as a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional lead-acid inverters and diesel generators, Ola Shakti offers automotive-grade safety and instant power backup with zero milliseconds changeover during power cuts. The system operates within a 200V to 240V voltage range, helping protect appliances from voltage fluctuations. It uses IP67-rated batteries that are resistant to dust, water, and harsh monsoon conditions, and features a spill-proof design. Ola Electric also noted that the system incurs zero running and maintenance costs.

Ola Shakti comes equipped with smart digital features accessible through a dedicated mobile application. Users can monitor battery levels and energy flow in real time, analyse consumption patterns, and receive insights designed to optimise energy usage and reduce electricity costs.

The residential BESS is available in four configurations—1kW/1.5kWh, 1kW/3kWh, 3kW/5.2kWh, and 6kW/9.1kWh—catering to varying energy requirements. Depending on the variant, Ola Shakti can power appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cooktops, farm pumps, and communication equipment. The system supports charging times of as little as two hours and can deliver up to 1.5 hours of backup power at full load.

With Ola Shakti, Ola Electric is positioning itself as a broader clean energy player, extending its capabilities from electric mobility into residential and distributed energy storage solutions.
