Olectra Greentech Commences Phase I Operations at Hyderabad Electric Vehicle Plant

Olectra Greentech Limited has commenced commercial operations of Phase I of its greenfield electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility located at Seetharampur, Hyderabad, Telangana, marking an important milestone in the company’s expansion in the electric mobility segment.

In a regulatory filing, the company stated that it has declared December 31, 2025, as the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for the facility and has communicated the same to its lender, State Bank of India (SBI). Phase I operations bring an annual per-shift production capacity of 2,500 electric buses, representing 50% of the planned per-shift capacity of 5,000 buses per annum once the facility is fully operational.

The Hyderabad plant is expected to significantly strengthen Olectra Greentech’s manufacturing capabilities and support its growing order book, including its recent allocation of 1,785 electric buses under the Prime Minister Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, which aims to deploy 10,900 electric vehicle buses nationwide.

Olectra Greentech, incorporated in 2000, is among India’s leading electric bus manufacturers and completed the homologation of its first electric bus in 2017. The company said the Phase I capacity corresponds to half of the total planned output and forms a key part of its long-term manufacturing expansion strategy.

The commencement of operations follows regulatory action by Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited (TGIIC), which imposed a penalty of ₹2.57 crore (including GST) on the company for delays in completing construction of the greenfield facility during the period from November 12, 2023, to November 11, 2025. TGIIC had directed Olectra to remit the penalty amount within seven days of receiving the order.

The start of production at the Seetharampur facility underscores Olectra Greentech’s focus on scaling up domestic EV manufacturing capacity and advancing its capital expenditure plans to meet increasing demand for clean and sustainable public transport solutions in India.
